Hulbert
At about 0758 on 7 December, Hulbert, variously cited as a destroyer and as a seaplane tender, reported shooting down a Japanese aircraft, a claim supported by the seaplane tender Thornton moored opposite at the dock in South-East Loch. Lieutenant Commander J. M. Lane, skipper of Hulbert, succeeded in taking her to sea and reported as she went down the harbor at about 1840 sighting a submarine periscope and made an attempt to ram, without result.
